AIDS Control Organization Pokhara organized an interaction program on HIV Aids and Environment Protection in coordination with Phewa Lake Environment Awareness and Capacity Building Project (PLECBP) on February 4, 2007 here in Pokhara. In the program Ex. Nursing Campus Chief Ms. Lal Kumari Gurung, Technical Officer Mr. Dilli Ram Baral spoke on HIV Aids and the current situation in Pokhara and Nepal. They informed there are currently around 700 HIV Aids infected people in Pokhara and out of them 188 are using Anti-Recto Viral (ARV).
Environmentalist Dr. Bishow Dhowj Shrestha, Project Manager PLECBP Sarada Mohan Kafle, Project Coordinator PLECBP Gopal Gurung, Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City Program Officer Om Raj Paudel also highlighted the relation of HIV Aids and the Environment, particularly Phewa Lake. They stressed that the random throwing and using of syringe in Seti canal, Phirke and Bulandi Rivers and along the Lake shore has also made Phewa Lake polluted. The program was organized under the chairmanship of Mr. Bishow Mohan Gauchan, President of AIDS Control Organization Pokhara. He highlighted that the main objective of the interaction program on HIV/AIDS, drug Abuse and Environment protection is to create awareness among local people and particularly among various Local Environment Improvement committees in the program. Members of 10 Local Environment Improvement Committee, journalist, Womenfs group, and social workers attended the program.
